The movie is among the best of tense thrillers (think: John Grisham The Firm) only that it is actually a real life story about the unbelievable crimes Dupont did to the American People & how they tried to cover for decades the fact that 99% of people nowadays have at least traces of their toxic Teflon-chemicals in their body.
This is how entertainment should be: engaging, entertaining & telling an important story in a time of civic society uprise against corporate coruption. The atmosphere is tight, the film never slows down and Mark Ruffalo & Tim Robbins bring us honest & wonderful portrayals of their characters!
10/10 Must see & worthy of (at least one) Oscar.

Matt Zoller Seitz November 22, 2019 "Dark Waters. starring Mark Ruffalo as an attorney trying to punish the DuPont chemical corporation for dumping toxic waste in West Virginia, is a lone-crusader-against-the-corrupt-system film, in the tradition of " The Insider. A Civil Action, and " The Verdict. Director  Todd Haynes. Carol. Mildred Pierce"  embraces that lineage, giving viewers the sense of what a long, tedious, spiritually draining process this can be, and letting even the best-looking, most charismatic actors in the ensemble appear onscreen looking as if they inhabit the same reality as the rest of us and are exhausted by it. Advertisement Ruffalo stars as Robert Billott, a Cincinnati, Ohio attorney for Taft Stettinius & Hollister, a firm that represents major corporations, including DuPont, one of the world's most powerful chemical manufacturers. Through personal ties, and against the wishes of his own colleagues, Billott decides to help a lowly cattle farmer from Parkersburg, West Virginia named Wilbur Tennant (played by Bill Camp, with beetle brows that make him look like Beau Bridges from a distance. Wilbur's cows have been getting sick, going insane, and dying off at an alarming rate, and he's convinced it's because DuPont poisoned the nearby water supply. He's right, of course, but proving it won't be easy, nor will establishing a chain of intentionality that might make DuPont liable for cleanup and restitution. What follows is a detective story with a nice guy lawyer at its center. Robert Billott is convincingly portrayed by Ruffalo as a sort of human version of Droopy the Dog, a cartoon character who defeated flashier, more volatile adversaries by being unflappable, indomitable and polite, and showing up where his foes least expected it. Haynes uses wide shots to emphasize Ruffalo's modest height compared to looming costars like Tim Robbins (as Billott's boss Tom Terp. The actor's turtle-in-a-shell body language further emphasizes that this smart, ethical man is financially, politically, even scientifically outgunned when trying to prove that DuPont has been dumping toxic waste into West Virginia soil, causing cancer, distemper, and rotting teeth in humans and animals alike. Moviegoers who keep up with environmental news (or who have read about the actual case that inspired "Dark Waters"  know that the farmer's plight is a gateway to a wider discussion of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) a byproduct of one of DuPont's most lucrative postwar products, teflon. This in turn leads to a wider and more alarming look at toxic chemicals that are spread through the water supply, enter human bodies, and stay there.  And it's that last bit of information that gives the movie a grim charge. At its most controlled and insinuating, Dark Waters" is reminiscent of paranoid thrillers from the 1970s like " The Parallax View " and " Chinatown. " In those kinds of movies, you know going in that you're going to see a story about how bad things are, thanks to corporate influence over government as well as the economy, but the extent of the corruption is still shocking, highlighting the implicit question: why fight, if the bad guys have already won? The answer, of course, is that you should fight because it's the right thing to do, and because even the promise of justice is slim, it's a public service of a more diminished kind to show people how broken the system is. Written by Mario Correa and  Matthew Michael Carnahan. Lions for Lambs. from a New York Times Magazine story, and shepherded by co-producer Ruffalo, an environmental activist, Dark Waters" never entirely overcomes a formulaic quality that tends to dog even the best examples of this kind of picture. This is noticeable not just in the storytelling rhythms, which twist and turn pretty much when you expect them to (a satisfying triumph followed by a deflating reversal of fortune)  but also in the way it portrays Billott's relationship with his supportive but understandably worn-out wife Sarah, played by Anne Hathaway. Sarah gives birth to two children during the course of a tale that takes more than a dozen years to play out, worrying about DuPont-caused birth defects the whole time; but she has to be content with a mainly advisory or sounding-board role, and the movie is never less convincing than when Sarah is announcing that she's not just The Wife in a heroic man's story. (To be fair, it's hard to say how this could've been remedied; Billott is our guide through the story as well as the audience's mirror. But maybe there was a way to make Sarah not sound as if she's arguing with reviews that haven't been written yet. But "Dark Waters" is still a strong and involving, though understated, example of this dying breed of film, resonating with present-day feelings of hopelessness at the brazen corruption on display every day in the United States, and throughout the world. Haynes might not initially seem like the kind of director you'd expect to see attached to this sort of project. But he has a keen eye for the narratively meaningful camera move (notice how often the movie starts a scene in darkness or by zeroing in on an out-of-focus element, then gradually makes the image clear) and undeniable skill with actors ( Victor Garber as the CEO of DuPont is a perfect distillation of the nice-guy arrogance of the super-rich. The script is good at showing the hero doing the necessary work to get to a breakthrough, whether by sitting by himself on the floor of a storage room and going through hundreds of boxes of evidence documents, or carefully re-reading a letter from DuPont until he realizes it doesn't say what everyone else thinks it says. (How often do movies make reading comprehension cinematic? Almost never. )  The film also makes sense as part of the HCU (Haynes Cinematic Universe.  Fans of the director's work will sense affinities between this movie and " Safe. about a woman suffering from environmental illness. It also echoes Haynes' self-aware period pieces "Mildred Pierce" and "Far From Heaven. which were partly about how social norms (be they sexist, racist, homophobic or, in this film's case, class-based) enable the status quo to preserve itself.  For all its patience and droll humor, this is an angry movie, rightly so. The most crowd-pleasing moments find Ruffalo transformed into a Jimmy Stewart- or Tom Hanks-level idealistic Everyman, railing against the world's evils while also taking the time to explain how they became entrenched, and how it's still possible to fight them, in a small way, at great cost. This month I've read two books about kids who were kidnapped and then returned home (the other was The Lost and the Found. Similar premise, but completely different stories. and I enjoyed them both. While The Lost and the Found was more of a suspense story, Afterward was about two families recovering from an unimaginable trauma: each had a son who was abducted, then returned to his family. The story is told in two POVs: that of Ethan, the first kidnapping victim... some seriously twisted things were hinted in this book. for a such a serious topic, its a perfect read. Grade: B+ Caroline's younger, autistic brother returns from being kidnapped, but can't tell anyone what happened due to his profound limitations. With Dylan, sixteen-year-old Ethan, who was taken four years earlier, is finally rescued. Attempting to understand Dylan, Caroline befriends Ethan and the two connect on a level only they understand. I love Jennifer Mathieu's writing. She creates characters with great voices. Her writing is crisp, clean and engaging. I love that she does her research... Afterward. Its a hopeful word. Isnt it? A word that implies that there will be a later on. A word that says you made it through something. You survived. Ethan survived. Ethan was kidnapped four years ago. Taken away from his family and home by a stranger. Ethan endured a life of fear and abuse and loneliness. Hes rescued when his captor kidnaps another boy (Dylan) and is caught. It not only breaks my heart but fills my heart and soul with anger to think about what this 11 year old boy had to do... AFTERWARD focuses strongly on the aftermath of trauma & takes a tender insight into two families trying to put the pieces back together after the unthinkable happens. Ethan & Dylan were abducted as kids (Ethan for 4 years; Dylan for several days. after being found must return back to their prior lives. The book divides between alternating POVs between Ethan & Caroline, Dylan's older sister. There are many positives here. I liked how therapy was shown in a favorable light; Ethan... *Physical ARC kindly provided by Macmillan* This was a wonderful book. Im especially happy with how therapy-positive this book was, and how Jennifer Mathieu showed Ethans PTSD and healing process. Most of the book was focused on that, and how Caroline was connected to it. Because when they start to become friends, and perhaps something more, the kidnapping is there between them. But the author treated their relationship, and Ethans trauma, with such care and respect. And I loved the two of... This was my first Jennifer Mathieu book to read & certainly won't be my last! I have not experienced a lot of stories centered around kidnapping, especially those focusing on the trauma of after. This story is every bit emotional, yet uplifting in the most darkest moments. I found myself rooting for these two broken teens as their nightmares collided and somehow began to heal. Definitely add this one to your TBR! I tried to like this book, but everything was so disconnected. Ethan disappears when he is 11 yrs old and then Dylan goes missing. Ethan had a lot of freedom with his kidnapping but never took off, we are never told any backstory on this time period that settled any questions on what happened, why or the actual freeing of the boys. Second story Dylan is has nonverbal autism and when he returns home no outside help is given to him. His mom tries to fix him and pretend all is normal. This causes... It's obviously that the biggest downside to this movie adapted musical, is the CG, the cats look so hideous to look at, and it just look so uncanny and it hit the bottom of the uncanny valley.
Now, negative asides, I enjoys the soundtrack a lot, but it wasn't as good as the original, obviously.
It's no wonder this movie have the lowest rating, but it could be better, if the CG doesn't look like something from a David Lynch movie.

Me : Hoping that I was Claire's friend 😩😩😭. This movie is boring and disgraces the name of the original Cats. What made Cats on the Stage amazing is that the makeup and dancing/ballet was real. They were actually doing every lift and pirouette you see, as well as convincing acting and costumes that are believable. In this film, you will find bad CGI, where there faces look like they're floating over a head. With CGI, anyone can be a ballet dancer. It's filled with weord back and forth casting. Jason Derulo is an abysmal Rum Tum Tugger, but Sir Ian McKellen is a great Old Gus. Jennifer Hudson has no weight as Grizabella, but James Corden is an alright Bustopher Jones. Wait until it's free on Netflix or something.

Can you imagine just being one of the actors of this movie and then just stumbling upon this video like just Imagine.

The scene when Amy falls through ice following Jo and Ted is very emotional and shows true love, kindness and caring among siblings with great upbringing. The movie has excellent screenplay. Saoirse Ronan as Jo and Florence Pugh as Amy are terrific and both are worthy of Oscar nominations. The movie is 2hrs 15minutes too long. Some scenes were redundant. Screenplay, Direction and great ensemble. Oscar worthy.

Marrying Ephron's script with Reiner's light direction is where the film scores over its imitators, along with having Crystal and Ryan appear fresh and untainted by later failures. Ephron clearly used up all her best jokes here and in the first half of Sleepless in Seattle. WHMS really does have a smart line every minute, and not all of them from Crystal ( You made a woman miaow. br> Whether the movie's assertion that men and women can't be friends is outside the scope of this criticism, though the ending suggests otherwise. And while using 'Auld Lang Syne' to underscore the climax stinks of imitation (Waterloo Bridge, anyone? it still makes me cry every time.
On the down side, this film has a lot to answer for. It gave rise to a stream of soppy joke-free 'comedies' all set in a large American city, with an easy listening soundtrack, a strong yet vulnerable male hero, a sassy yet vulnerable female hero, a couple of mad friends and a cameo from a well-known director (usually Reiner himself. Accept no substitutes - this is the 10 out of 10 original.

I must admit I do have a soft spot for comedies of this sort (New York, jazzy soundtrack, set around autumn/winter, starring Meg Ryan) but in all honesty this film would appeal to anyone who truly loves cinema.
It's not that I love chick flicks (as they are commonly known by those who don't know. My favourite genres are horror and Chinese action, but there's just something about new york comedies that draw me in.
Both the stars are perfect with Billy crystal in his career best role. always funny, but not often this reserved Crystal makes us like what is essentially 9at least to begin with ) unlikealbe character.
The witty script by Nora Ephron is among her best for comedy (though Sleepless has the better love story)with Reiner perfectly capturing the feeling of the city.
almost perfect comedy 9/10.

Hinako is a surfer, Minato is a firefighter. Both about 20 and they fall in love. Everything is ridiculously perfect, but one day Minato drowns while trying to save someone from the ocean.
Hinako, understandably takes it pretty bad, but to her surprise, whenever she starts singing their favorite song, Minato's spirit appears in the closest body of water - be it a stream, the ocean, or a bottle of mineral water.
The whole story is really about Hinako, Minato's friends and family, and how they slowly but finally learn to "let go.
Of course, it's magical-realism, so in the end we get to witness some crazy action as well, where we surf down a skyscraper with our protagonists.
Unfortunately, this is not the most original story, the characters are a little two dimensional, and the filmmaking could've been a little braver.
It's fine though, the film looks really nice, colorful with constantly glowing orange hues and cool blues. The action looks fantastic as well and the environments feel very "lived in" and detailed. Seeing it on a big screen really adds to the experience.
It is also paced well, has some pretty funny moments, as well as a couple of quite moving ones.
Recommended if you manage to catch it screening somewhere, but not an essential viewing.

I saw "Just Mercy" a few days ago at the Philadelphia Film Festival and was blown away by the film. and I consider it to be one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. I could easily see the picture receiving several Oscar nominations- especially for acting. Imagine my suprise when I looked on IMDB and saw a score of 5.6 and some negative reviews! I am not exactly sure what this is all about and perhaps it's because there are some angry pro-capital punishment folks or some who simply hate a film with a mostly black cast. All I know is that the film is a quality production and kept my interest throughout.
The story is based on the work of Bryan Stevenson, a Harvard graduate who chose to move to Alabama and work for a small salary to help examine the convictions of men on death who in some cases were not guilty at all. How could anyone NOT applaud this sort of thing?
Overall, a brilliantly written film that made me sad and angry. and I love when a film effects me that way. The acting was top-notch, the story magnificent and the writing amazing. Just ignore all the negativity and see this one. you'll be happy you did. As for me, I'd consider this perhaps the best American film of the 's THAT good.
